If I were to witness a beer competition between a German and a Czech I honestly don't know who would win. We spent the weekend in Munich, Germany for Springfest and there was more beer consumed than I ever thought was humanly possible. We decided to travel with bus2alps and were half regretting our voluntarily decision to stay in a disgusting hostel. Then they told us they were putting us up in the Sheraton for the weekend and we didn't believe them until we actually got there #winning. We arrived at the hotel a bit after midnight and immediately PTFO.
After a great night of sleep in a real bed we chose to partake in the bike tour of Munich that bus2alps offered. Though it was early in the morning we sucked it up, enjoyed our free breakfast and headed out. I don't remember the last time I've ever ridden a bike, but I definitely still had braces. Uneasy at first, I lagged behind much of the group and sadly usually only caught up just as the tour guide finished explaining what the important thing was in front of us. Guess I need to brush up on my skills. I gradually got the hang of it as we toured through the city and I successfully managed to stay on my bike at all times. We made a pit-stop at a well-known river where many people go to surf; easily one of the coolest things I saw while I was there. We also stopped in a huge beer garden and cheers-ed to our first beers in Munich. When it was time to depart from there our tour was led through a nudest park. No thank you old man, I did not want to see that much of you today. As I tried to get that sight out of my head, we saw the rest of the city and eventually ended up right where we started.
We headed back to the hotel and prepared for the evening ahead of us. Our hotel was just a few metro stops away from the festival so we hopped on, unsure of what we were about to experience. When I walked off the tram it was pretty much heaven. Springfest was essentially an amusement park where excessive beer drinking was promoted. We headed to the tents, ordered an absurd amount of Steins (when you ask for a beer, that's what they give you. See above) and took in all that Springfest had to offer. We ended our evening with a hazy dinner in the hotel and passed out.
The following day the festival started much earlier. We grabbed some delicious doner kebabs and tried to avoid thinking about the shaving of the questionable dead animal we had just witnessed. The second day of Springfest was just as amazing as the first. We tent-hopped, drank way too many beers and made fools of ourselves on the bumper cars. While you're in the tents it's hectic, crowded, and filled with people from everywhere you can imagine. The security was strict and I saw multiple "dumb Americans" get kicked out just for standing where they shouldn't. We avoided them at all costs and even made a few nice German friends! After about 8 straight hours of the madness we decided it was time to go and headed back to our hotel for the night.
When we woke up to a disgusting, rainy day we were thankful that it held out for the entire weekend. After a few expected mishaps before departing we finally took off back to Praha. As much as I hated the scene in Barcelona, it was the exact same scene in Munich and I absolutely loved it. There must be something about friends and day drinking that put Dublin and Munich way up there on my list.
