It's been exactly a week since we've arrived in Prague and I could not be more in love with it. After what seemed like endless hours in and out of airports, we finally arrived early Monday morning. The week was spent attempting to familiarize ourselves with the gorgeous city we fortunately get to call home for the next four months. Before deciding where I wanted to go abroad, I never saw myself as someone who would be mesmerized by a few buildings. I was most definitely wrong.
Prague is separated into sections with names that remind me of the Hunger Games, with a lot less violence. We live in Praha 2 and have ventured around Praha 1 and 5 so far. We live very close to Old Town Square which is the heart of Praha 1 and very touristy. The only way I can describe it is like the Disney Land of Europe for adults. There are million and one things to do and see and we have only just begun. After passing through Old Town Square, a short but confusing walk can lead you to the Charles Bridge with a breathtaking view of the Prague Castle. If you're Jackie, Natalie and I, you'll then stumble upon the John Lennon Wall accidentally, freak out, and take a trillion and one pictures. I've since been back twice and have confirmed my obsession with a spray painted wall that started via Google images.
While the days are amazing I'm equally obsessed with the nights. Penn State, I love you, but you will never live up to Retro, Lucerna Fridays, and Karlovy Lazne (just to name a few). We have developed a disgusting and sick love for Lucerna Fridays after only one night there, as any true 90's kid would. If we could invent a way to attend every single Friday there and also get to travel over the weekend, we would in a heartbeat. Karlovy Lazne is a 5 story club that has a different genre of music on each level, so props to the genius who came up with that.
Aside from all the above I have one and a half complaints: water and sleep. They weren't kidding when they said beer is cheaper than water. But Czechs are human, and humans need water, so can I please have some tap water that I don't have to pay 5 korunas for? Sleep. What is it? We barely sleep here, as in I was thrilled to get more than 4 hours of sleep last night. That's my half of a complaint though cause hey, you can sleep when you're dead, right?
More posts to come when I find more hours in the day. Guess I'll just claim "experience first, document later" as my abroad motto.
