It's been a hectic/insane/amazing/interesting couple of weeks since I've written, but I have officially been in Prague for one month now. After an unforgettable couple of weeks battling the small critters that left their marks on our skin, we finally switched apartments and are now living in what we like to call the Attic. It's in the sketchiest alleyway you can think of but is actually quite nice inside. The nickname is derived from our slanted ceilings that are so low even I have to try and avoid banging my head (and if you know anything about me at all, you know what a big deal that is). While I spent my birthday ending our careers as nomads moving all of our belongings in garbage bags from one apartment to the next, it ended with a delicious and food-coma friendly sushi (dinner) with my girls.
Thursday night (2/20/14) came with the longest bus ride I've ever been on to Interlaken, Switzerland. What bus2alps told us would be a mere 7 hours slowly but surely turned into 12. Needless to say, we definitely needed more than 1 bottle of wine. We arrived at 6:30 am, unavoidably waking up our two random roommates from Florence as Stacey, Kristina and I greeted Lindsey with a tired yet obnoxiously excited hello. While some chose to immediately hit the slopes, I chose to hit the bed. Hard. We stayed at the infamous Balmer's hostel, which I would equate to a co-ed frat house.
The morning brought rain showers and fog, but nonetheless we ventured out through the streets of Switzerland. After a few wrong turns and one too many conversations with strangers, we finally found one of the lakes. Anything that looks that gorgeous from underneath my umbrella and covered in fog is okay in my book. The weather was limiting but we tried to make the most of it and walked around town for good amount of the day. Then nightfall came and so did the crowds, piling into Metro, the underground bar less than a foot away from our hostel. The bar reminded me of Sig Saturday, if Sig Saturday had a 2 for 1 drink deal.
The following day was beautiful. The sun shined brightly on the mountain tops as I stared and thought, so this is where Google images gets it from. While some were adventurous enough to casually jump out of airplanes and skydive (shoutout Stacey, Lindsey and Natalie) Kristina, Jackie and I stuck to our own adventures with the boys, grounded, safely on the earth. We ate atop the highest hotel in Interlaken, with a view to die for. Walking out on the balcony, you could see everything, including the endless streams of paragliders falling from the sky only a few feet away from us. After lunch we revisited the lake, this time with a breathtaking view. I've never been more relaxed or taken in my surroundings as much as I did for those two hours at the lake. We concluded the days adventures with a chocolate factory tour, filling our stomachs and leaving with treats for the road. Night 2 at Metro was just as fun as the first, and we definitely felt the repercussions the next morning for taking full advantage of the all too tempting 2 for 1 deal again. Sunday morning came and we packed up our stuff. We relentlessly boarded the bus for what we knew was definitely not a 7 hour bus ride, said goodbye to the beautiful mountains and dozed off to sleep.
